Genghis Khan was the first Khaghan of the Mongol Empire. A Khaghan is somewhat a Mongol Emperor, only 6 of them ruled the Mongol Empire between 1206-1368 with the last ruler being Toghon Temur. Originating in Mongolia, the Mongol Empire became the largest contiguous land empire in history. 

The copper coin struck ca. 1200, depicts an elephant on one side.
