Henry VIII is known for his numerous marriages, and the brutal ways they ended.
Catherine of Aragon
1509-1533
Born 1485, Catherine of Aragon married Henry VIII’s brother before he died in 1502. Shortly after Henry VIII became king in 1509, he married his brothers widow. She was the mother of Queen Mary I. After being unable to produce a child and after Henry develops an interest in Anne Boleyn, he has his marriage with Catherine annulled in 1533. She passed away from cancer in 1536.
Anne Boleyn
1533-1536
Born 1501/1507, Anne Boleyn married Henry in 1532, not long before his married with Catherine had been Annulled. Anne was the mother of Queen Elizabeth I. Henry is disappointed that Anne didn’t produce him a son. After an unconvincing ‘investigation’ Henry had Anne beheaded for adultery in 1536.
Jane Seymour
1536-1537
Born 1508, Jane married Henry in 1536 and gave him a son the following year. She died within weeks of giving birth and becomes the only wife of Henry VIII to receive a queens funeral. Jane is the mother of King Edward VI. Henry is buried with her when he dies.
Anne of Cleeves
1540
Born 1515, Henry married Anne of Cleeves in 1540 as a strategic move to build an alliance with her brother, William. The marriage was annulled within 6 months and she remains a queen uncrowned. She died in 1557 outliving Henry and all his wives.
Catherine Howard
1540-1541
Born 1523, Catherine married Henry 19 days after his marriage had been annulled with Anne. She was supposedly between 15 and 21 at the time. Henry had her beheaded months after he finds out about her relationships prior to marrying him. She died in 1542.
Catherine Parr
1543-1547
Born 1512, Catherine married Henry in 1543, and outlived him by over a year when he died in 1547. She had 2 previous marriages to Henry and one after making he the most married Queen English queen. She died in 1548 due to complications during the birth of Mary Seymour.
