After the assassination of Roman Emperor Caracalla, Macrinus became emperor from April 217. Macrinus made his son, Diadumenian, co-Emperor in May 218 at the age of only 9. A revolt led by the Caracalla’s cousin and her son, Elagabalus, met the end of Marcinus’ reign. After Macrinus’ defeat at the battle of Antioch 8th June 218, he fled north to Bosporus and had Diadumenian transported by trusted guards to the Parthian Empire for refuge. Diadumenian was captured and beheaded at age 9. His head was reportedly kept as a trophy by Elagabalus. Macrinus was also captured upon fleeing and executed. This marked the beginning of Elagabalus short live and scandalous rise to power. Only age 14 when he became an Emperor, his reputation was so scandalous that his own grandmother had him decapitated at age 18, 222AD.
