Magnentius was a Roman General who was trying to obtain power during the reign of Constantius II. After killing the unpopular emperor Constans, Magnentius took control over most of the western Roman Empire. This coin depicts the bust of Magnentius’ brother, Decentius, who became Caesar.
Magnentius’ revolt sparked the Roman Civil war of 350-353 which ended at the battle of Mons Seleucus. After defeat Magnentius committed suicide on 11th August 353, so did Decentius a week later on the 18th August 353.
